Activity Types
Overview
Racery supports over 80 activity types that convert into race miles. This means every participant can contribute to their team and progress along the virtual route, regardless of their preferred form of exercise.
While other virtual race platforms focus exclusively on running and walking, Racery's inclusive approach maximizes participation and makes everyone feel welcome.
How Conversions Work
Racery uses an effort-based conversion system to normalize different activities into equivalent "race miles." The conversion rates are calibrated so that similar levels of effort across different activities produce similar mileage.
For distance-based activities (running, cycling, swimming), the conversion factors in the relative effort per mile. For time-based activities (yoga, meditation, strength training), the conversion uses duration to calculate equivalent miles.
How it works: The system levels the playing field so that a yoga enthusiast and a runner contribute comparable miles for comparable effort. This keeps competition fair while encouraging diverse participation.
Example Conversions
| Activity | Input | Race Miles |
|---|---|---|
| Running / Walking | 1 mile | 1 mile |
| Cycling | 15 miles | ~3 miles |
| Swimming | 1 hour | ~4 miles |
| Yoga | 30 minutes | ~1 mile |
| Strength Training | 30 minutes | ~1 mile |
| Meditation | 15 minutes | ~0.5 miles |
| Gardening | 30 minutes | ~1 mile |
These are approximate conversions. Exact rates may vary slightly based on race configuration.

- Mobile app: Log directly from the Racery app on iOS or Android
- Web dashboard: Enter activities through the browser at racery.com
- Manual entry: Type the activity type, duration or distance, and optional notes
Each logged activity updates the participant's position on the virtual route, team standings, and leaderboards in real time.
Custom Activities
Race sponsors can request custom activities specific to their organization. Examples:
- Wellness activities (e.g., "Good night's sleep" for wellness-focused races)
- Company-specific challenges or wellness goals
- Volunteer hours or community service
Custom activities use the same effort-based conversion system. Contact your Racery account manager to set up custom activities for your race.
Why Inclusivity Matters
- Broader participation: When the only option is running, you exclude employees with different fitness preferences or physical limitations. 80+ activities ensure everyone can contribute
- All fitness levels: A first-time yoga student and a marathon runner both earn meaningful miles, keeping the experience motivating for everyone
- Holistic wellness: Supporting meditation, stretching, and mind-body activities alongside cardio promotes a well-rounded approach to health
- Remote-friendly: Participants can log activities with whatever resources they have — a home gym, a neighborhood sidewalk, or a yoga mat in their living room
